Here are some places to visit throughout the state.

Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a paradise for nature lovers. Visitors should plan enough time to visit the peninsula 384-mile long. The Upper Peninsula is home to the highest mountains in the Midwest and all but two of Michigan's 152 waterfalls. Here are a few places you can make sure you visit during your stay in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Mackinac Island - Take the ferry to the beautiful island of Mackinac. A place that takes you back in time to horse-drawn carts, shops and historical exhibits. Fort Mackinac was built by the British in 1782 during the Revolutionary War to control the strategic Straits of Mackinac between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. During the summer months, you can take you back in time with re-enactments and tours of historic buildings on the island.

Pictured Rocks - A fantastic spectacle of multicolored sandstone cliffs lining Lake Superior. This stretch is known for its hiking trails, beaches and boat trips, glass bottom.

Isle Royale - Wander freely with the wolves and moose in this North Woods sanctuary. 99% of the land mass is federally designated as wilderness. This archipelago is composed of ridges resulting from lava flows, which have been tilted and ice. Isle Royale has 165 miles of hiking trails, excellent fishing, paddling, shipwrecks and plenty of places to watch wildlife.

Houghton / Copper Harbor - Observe fantastic views of rugged shoreline of Lake Superior to the top of Brockway Mountain. Here you can take the scenic route of the mountain (hopefully you will see a black bear in the woods), do some mountain biking, kayaking Keeweenaw the Water Trail or just relax on the beach. If you are looking for a white canopy, snow retirement Copper Harbor gives you snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

Drummond Island - Two-thirds of Drummond Island belongs to the state. The topography is diverse ranging from cedar swamps to rock ledges, prairie meadows hardwood groves, rocky shores to sandy beaches. The recreation available is as diverse as the field. Here you can hunt, fish, swim, hiking, biking, stargazing and exploring the area.

Paradise - Paradise, Michigan is a great little town on the shores of Lake Superior at the northern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. If you are a birder, this is the place to visit in spring or fall to watch raptors, waterfowl and small birds in their migrations to and from Canada. If you like waterfalls, than be sure to visit the falls Tahquamanon, one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. You can take a few minutes walk to the lookout point, walk down the Falls, or hike the extensive trail system that stretches across the park.
