How can Harley Davidson dealers afford rent or lease to places of their first dealers? ever noticed? All dealers have a high end HD high traffic location, they must be the cost of renting or leasing of major contracts, how can they make money to pay for it?
HD sales are off 35% for 2008
Mainly by ripping their customers and double invoicing or more throughout the store with a Harley-Davidson logo on it ...
Harleys are extremely overpriced and so are the accessories you buy to go on ... and some people with more money than brains still in line to pay, just because their friends all have a RUB!
It is simply part of their model of good business, like Walgreens. You'll never see a Walgreens if it is on a busy corner.
HD also supports their dealers much more than the Japanese factory. They have extensive dealer programs, funding, training and design teams that make each place what it is. The Jap dealers seem to just be a guy who puts up a small shop on a side street and hired a mechanic and a salesman and called good as HD was in the old days.
Probably part of the reason, they are the best selling motorcycle in the United States. Also part of the effort across the company to change their image over the past 25 years.
You should check out the Harley dealership in Dothan, Alabama, as opposed to Dothan Power Sports (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Victory. DPS has a great location and I am yet to go there without seeing 30-40 customers. The day when I took delivery of my bike I was 5th row for F & I. They have two sales (F & I) office. They delivered 25 bikes that day, and had at least that many customers walk while I was waiting for about four hours. Would you sell a bike a week and make profit on it 3000.00 or sell 200 bikes a week and make a profit on each 300.00? Seems the distributors could be charged for their business? I intend to examine Harley in a few months, but am leaning more towards a Yamaha or Honda for my wife.
They have a lot of money for that after the fleece of sheep that walk through their doors. These people are simply dying to overpay for anything with the Harley logo. And then there all the time store.
In addition to this look at all the other manufacturers to invent new engines for bicycles savagely differnet. Harley has been saving money on development and tooling since 1930 by just doing a lousy engine, but celebrated all this time together.
they can afford because of the steep margin. much so that the bikes, but most money comes from China is expensive, clothing, shirts, jackets, leather and accessories for the bike. Why buy an American bike that fit you and your trip will be all the Chinese crap. They are obviously very well done for a company t-shirt, which makes bicycles.
Ever thought that maybe the Harley owners pay too much for what they buy? That may be what they are paying for a name and mystique "Harley" (translation myth). Do not be a bad idea here. I'm not trashing Harleys. They have good products and if their price was more realistic, I might even own one. But as yuppies and rubs continue to shovel cash at the Harley, why should they back their exorbitant prices? So, yes, they can afford prime locations, so they can take us all the cleaners ...
There is a reason Harleys are so expensive. Last year, a dealer in HD, all the bikes in place, except the Sportster 883, was $ 27,000 or more. I suppose that installing additional chrome or something. Did not matter the model, it had a $ 27,000 + tag on that. Must be the overhead!
Good road.
