Heated seats and grips on a Harley Electra Glide Ultra Classic, sound systems? I'm in the market for a new touring bike and I wonder how much difference a heated seat and handles to do when you ride in cold weather or cold. Are they necessary or are they just a fashionable thing? Also in regard to the sound systems, will I be able to hear the music, even with my headset? I saw a BMW driver who was either a helmet or something in the headphones controlled by a control handle bar. Basically, what is the best way to enjoy music on a Harley?
The heated seats and grips are great if you plan to ride a few days cold, but for the really cold weather or long trips on cold days you need more than that. The key to staying in the hot wind is superimposed. The space between the layers of clothing trap body heat and are much warmer than one thick layer thick. Do not be shy about putting on two long-sleeved turtlenecks, sweatshirts or before your outerwear. And do not laugh, a raincoat is sometimes much warmer than leather because it blocks the wind. In cool weather and I wear packages that can be torn to heat. Most stores like Kmart and sporting goods have them this time of year. They took me out of trouble when I strayed too far and too long on a cool day and it was cold and dark to go home.
If it does't horribly cold where you live you can get by with the handles and the seat and they are wired on the bike, so you just walk down and without having to disconnect every son. If this does not give enough to keep you safely warm, buy armchaps heated pads, gloves, vests and www.widder.com www.gerber.com and can have a Harley dealer in stock or less in their catalog . I bought the insulated pants electric Harley and they kept me warm in 34 degree weather. But, I also had the guys arm and Widder vest and gloves too. If you have the lower fairings in place you might not need heat on the legs for short distances, but for a long journey and your legs get cold you will not feel it until you try to get off the bike . ADB. once your legs are cold it takes a lot and your body temperature to warm. It's dangerous because you can get disoriented and just run the road.
To the music of several of my friends in the club HOG use an MP3 player connected to the headphones. They fit in most all helmets and still allow enough noise outside for you to be aware of surroundings.
If you feel rich Harley has a handlebar mount radio / CD player with great waterproof speakers that can really belt the air.
I hope that gives you enough information to make a wise choice.
