What is an Oyster card?
Oyster is the easiest way to pay for single journeys on buses, subway, tram, DLR, London Overground and some National Rail services in London. You can store your Travelcard / Bus Pass and / or money to pay as you go on your card.
How to use your Oyster card
Just touch your Oyster card flat on a yellow card reader every time you touch journey.Always at the start and touch the end of your journey, even if the doors are open.
Bus
Always touch as you board. You do not need to touch.
Trams
Always touch the card reader on the platform of the tram stop before boarding a tram. You do not need to touch.
How to pay your travel, oyster
You can store money on your card to pay for single journeys as you go. You can make as many trips as you want in a period of 24 hours and you will still pay less than the price of an equivalent Travelcard day or one day Bus Pass.
For complete flexibility, you can store tickets and cash on a single Oyster card. Remember the money you save on Oyster never expires so hang on to the Oyster card for your next visit to London.
How to get an Oyster card and recharge. You can renew the ticket stored on your card or recharge your cash balance:
Online on the website of the British government. In most metro stations across the touch screen vending machines and counters in railway stations. At over 2,200 Oyster Ticket Stops. Find your nearest site of the British government
National offices of the train ticket. A 7 London Travel Information Centres, which also offer travel tips, maps and free tickets to many attractions.
Use of oysters on the national railway system
7 days and longer period Travelcards stored on Oyster can be used in the National Rail services in London. If you use the money to pay as and for traveling alone please check with the train operator before traveling not all roads are covered by National Rail.
