What is the difference between motocross and mountain biking? When I go to websites to look for dirt bikes has always motocross and dirt bikes in various categories What is the difference between them?
A World of Difference: Racing / Trails
> Motocross are designed for speed, so power solid suspension, and have no extras that would take account of weight.
trails "or" enduro "built to cope with technical tracks and have a smoother ride. They are heavier than motocross bikes carying electric starters, headlite, and crutches.
> Both bikes can have the same displacement and the same appearance, but are completely different ................ the trail on the track is a heavy watered version of motocross ... ............. and vice versa .......... Motocross on the trail technique degrades the stall point, and lacks some useful facilities.
> I wouldnt take a trail from the runway, but I rode motocross on technical trails, it is a challenge
There is a very big difference. Both are commonly called dirt bikes motocross bikes, however, are specifically designed for off-road racing, motocross and Supercross style and require more capacity and competence. There are actually several types of off-road motorcycles ...
MX and SX, advanced technology, incredible suspension, high reving, high HP, designed to track with big jumps, but a relatively short duration of a race ... 15-40 motorcycles minute. Examples: Treasury, YZF, KTM SX / XC, RMZ, KXF ...
then more in the Harescrambles & bike enduro type, tend to have a wider ratio transmission, usually a little more torquey powerband with a much smoother, more trails made for lighter terrain MX tracks for a longer long race with pit stops for gas and water ... 2-6 hour duration of the race. Examples: KTM EXC / XC-W, CRFx, YZF with the weight of the flywheel (CRF RMZ KXF and also with weight FW), KDX
then just beside the road, usually a bike much more docile, but not necessarily all of the fancy high perf. and usually weigh more. Examples: XR, TTR, KLX, CRF under 230cc (all based on the engine design more XR) ...
motocross is for racing, off road riding is more of a trail or a type of bike street legal
