Ponderosa Horse Trailers

Posted on May 3, 2010.
Ponderosa Horse TrailersDoes anyone own or know someone who owns a horse trailer or Calico Ponderosa?

My husband and I have been looking for a bumper oblique 2-horsepower locomotives. We have studied the use and we found some news that Calico and Ponderosa are selling right around 4-5K. I am sure they are not as strong as the more expensive, but we live in Nevada (no rust) and we have no horses for performance in order not to much travel or continuous use. I use it primarily to descend into the arena, more houses to friends ... in other words use of light. I hear people who own one.

I understand they are not very well done. The floor stands are too far away and sometimes the joints are not strong. Remember, you get what you pay for. If you decide to buy one it looks very carefully, especially the underside. You do not want your horse to fall through the floor!

There is nothing wrong with a trailer light, but as PRS, sometimes it is not only a lighter trailer is a trailer less well done. The two trailers have been known to mention you have quality problems. However, there are small trailers that do not have the problems:

Corn Pro Stock is a trailer light
trailers Valley is no longer in production, but those used are pleasant to use light. (I own one, it draws Nice and well done)

If you are unsure, find a repair trailer service company reputation, and ask the same question you ask here. Just please be careful on the floor! This seems to be an area where many trailer makers shortcuts. I hear stories of more broken bars and horses pass through the stages during ascent, as PRS warned.

Several people I know have Ponderosa trailers and have never had a problem with them. One of my friends has a 4 Stocks Ponderosa horse and uses it every weekend and trailers across the state. I also live in an area where rust is a constant concern (Charleston, SC, right on the ocean). I have seen trailers that have rust spots on them, but nothing serious.

With ANY trailer, regardless of brand, if it is someone I used to give a depth once more to ensure it is safe to carry your animals, but I do not want to influence opinions peoples from one brand to another. Ponderosa trailers are not bad and many people here are frequent.

We have a Calico is a slope with a saddle three horses before. It's like a stock trailer, just a little lover of horses. :) I love it, it is inexpensive, especially compared to most other vans. We were originally looking for a simple two-horse straight load, but he saw it, and the price, and had to get it. It is ideal when we need to carry extra hay, since it is a stock type trailer. The upholstery has three racks saddle and bridle / halter hooks. It also has a window you can see, but no one can see from the outside. We towed my two ponies, and also a mare 15.3hh with no problem. It is a great trailer!

I had a Calico 3 years the horse GN slant load before. I kept the case for many years, and has used every summer and very little in winter. There was a time when I drove it 5 hours, an average of camp and back again five hours over the summer. It does the job, I never had much problem with rust or anything. It was a steel trailer, so there was some rust showing but not much. The soil has never given me a problem. It was not very sophisticated so the best price tag. For what you are doing, I would say you will do very well with him.
