| Marketplace | V8 Dune BuggyPosted on April 25, 2010. How do you get a buggy engine on the rear axle? Me and some friends are willing to build a buggy, but we can not seem to work on how to get the engine on the rear axle. We use a V8 engine. Is there a certain type of gearbox that should be used or can use a string of box right at the diff below the gearbox?
Any help will be great First, let me mention that this is a major engineering project or a project aimed at using existing methods. The engineering approach is not recommended, it is very unlikely that something could work platform over time. The fact that you say V-8 says you can forget about the readers of the chain or any other type of home-made solution that works in a device the size of go-kart.
The usual solution is to simply an engine in front or behind an existing production of Trans-axle. The most common solution is to VW, Corvair, or Porsche. With the VW liable to self-destruction behind a V-8.
As this is a very complicated project the best advice I can give you is a little research. I've included some links.
You'll find that V-8 power can be sexy, but it complicates a simple project. And in the middle or rear of the engine V-8 power is rare.
